Hour 1 (2:00-2:50 M-Th) or Hour 3 (4:00-4:50 M-TH)

The question of what “art” is has occupied the minds of philosophers and critics ever since humankind began to think and argue. The term has been applied to many forms of visual media, especially to the fine arts, specifically drawings, paintings, sculptures, and printmaking. Art Merit Badges concentrates on two-dimensional art, specifically drawing and painting in various media. While working on Art Merit Badge scouts will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of art as well as design and create their own works of art.

4.  With your parent’s permission and your counselor’s approval, visit a museum, art exhibit, art gallery, artists’ co-op, or artist’s workshop. Find out about the art displayed or created there. Discuss what you learn with your counselor.
